Continually Improving the
    Security of the School

Leighton Park School, Reading was established in 1890. Set in 60 acres of beautiful parkland, within walking distance of Reading town centre, the school offers a vibrant learning community, where the students have the time and space to live, learn and grow.

Like all schools, Leighton Park takes the security of its staff, pupils, their possessions, its premises and equipment very seriously.

Currently, the school has approximately 500 students between the ages of 11 and 18. The majority of the school’s students are boarders, so security is paramount throughout the school’s facilities.

The school are committed to investing in their educational environment for both current and future students. With expensive equipment and facilities, it is vitally important Chris Lewis Fire and Security keep the security in and around the premises up to date to ensure maximum protection is provided for everyone in the school.

Chris Lewis Fire & Security (CLFS) have been working with Leighton Park School for over eight years, both extending and continually improving the security of the school. With flexibility in the length of the school day, and the provision of over ten school transport routes, the school requires stringent perimeter security, all year round.

    The Solution

Chris Lewis Fire and Security installed or upgraded the access control, intruder alarms, and CCTV- all with an annual maintenance package for preventative protection to the school for their property, pupils, children, teachers and staff.

Access control is used at the door to the school theatre and was designed primarily to give disabled individuals easy access. This door is controlled by a long-range reader, set at a height compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), which picks up the presence of the disabled individual (via a token) and opens the door automatically. The school also required barriers to be installed at the front entrance, giving controlled access permission to regular visitors as well as monitoring the flow of traffic in and out of the school grounds. Vehicles visiting the school, including buses, approach an intercom system allowing internal members of staff to connect and communicate with the visitor allowing them entry into the school. The access control system was installed with minimum disruption to its users, whilst creating an easy-access solution for a key school building.

We have created a tailored maintenance contract especially for Leighton Park School to meet their individual requirements. They need to ensure maximum protection for their premises and therefore require highly trained operatives, maintenance, service, and response to their systems 24/7. This includes a set number of call-outs per year and a guaranteed four-hour rapid-response time. At Chris Lewis Fire and Security we make certain everyone feels safe and secure in their learning and living environments. The benefits of the annual maintenance packages guarantees full compliance and safety for all the pupils and staff within Leighton Park School, and that any repairs are addressed very quickly.
