CHRIS LEWIS GROUP UPDATE: response to the Coronavirus (Covid–19)

Chirs Lewis Customer update coronavirus

Message from Chris Lewis on our response to the Coronavirus (Covid-19)

I would like to take this opportunity to reassure our valued customers that, although our offices are currently closed, we continue to be operational and support your systems to ensure they remain safe and compliant.

“Security & fire safety personnel can play a vital role at this time of national challenge. People working in these sectors who are essential to national infrastructure are “Key Workers” for the purposes of the Government’s guidance on COVID-19”

The safety and protection of your premises is vital at this time. A lot of buildings, especially commercial premises are empty and it is therefore critical that your fire and security systems are properly maintained. This will not only protect your building and contents, but it will reduce the strain on emergency services having to attend an alarm.

Over the years our business has invested heavily in technology and we are confident that we have the systems and processes in place to ensure that we can continue to remain operational and support you and your systems during this extremely challenging period.

The health, safety and welfare of our customers and our employees remains a top priority. We are closely monitoring and following information and guidance issued by Public Health England and the World Health Organisation, as well as our industry bodies, and I would like to outline some of the measures that we have put in place, and precautions that we are taking at this time.

Remote access
For customers experiencing problems with their fire, security or smart home system, where possible, our engineers, will try to fix the problem remotely. Where remote access to your system is not operational, we will connect with you using online video applications.

Engineer visits
We are carefully reviewing requests for engineer visits on a case by case basis and doing the relevant risk assessments, but please rest assured that an engineer will attend your site if it is deemed necessary. Our engineers are working in isolation and are following strict social distancing and hygiene protocols at all times.

If there are any additional or specific precautions that you require our engineers to undertake in relation to Covid-19 before or during a site visit, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Getting in touch with us
• For general enquiries and non-emergency assistance, please Email us. We will endeavour to respond to you within 24 hours/next working day.

We appreciate your continued business and patience and we very much look forward to opening the office again as soon as it is permitted.

Staying Connected and Keeping your Property Protected

Message from Chris Lewis CEO

As a business we have taken a number of steps to serve our valued customers in these difficult times. I wanted to update all of you on the measures we are taking as a business to ensure your property stays protected and we stay connected.

We as always will operate a 24-hour helpline for all our contracted customers and have engineers on call outside normal working hours.

In the unlikely case of closure to our office all our staff have the ability to work from home if necessary with full office connectivity.
All normal methods of communication via our cloud service platforms will be available, phone, email and video if you need us.
Where we have access we can also remotely access your systems.

We have the ability to tap into our wider network of companies and subcontractors across the country for further engineering resources if needed.

At this moment we are happy to report that we feel that we have in place a robust system and should not see any drop in service levels but we will be daily monitoring this.

I hope this gives you a level of reassurance you need at this time but please do not hesitate to call the team if you have any questions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we navigate this challenging situation.

The Growth of The Chris Lewis Brand

It’s our birthday! Chris Lewis Fire and Security hits 25 years to the day since its inception. We take this opportunity to look back at the company’s history and the values that drive this Oxford-based company. It was founded with an objective that remains at the heart of the organisation 25 years on: to put customers first. It is this desire to listen, exceed expectations and provide systems tailored to customers needs than has seen the company go from strength to strength and become Oxford’s largest independent fire and security experts.

Chris Lewis Fire & Security (originally named Chris Lewis security services) was started by current CEO Chris Lewis in 1993. He saw that there were many companies out there installing security products but that often the service and technology advice they gave was far from inspiring. Chris Lewis wanted to set his business apart from the pack by providing innovation, bespoke design, installation and maintenance service to meet the specific needs of its clients, and to offer a level of service support superior to its competitors.

Making things easier for customers.

The desire to provide better service and latest technology was paramount and in order to deliver on this pledge the organisation looked carefully into what customer’s pain-points were and aimed to make service a better experience. Chris Lewis was seen as the go-to pioneering place that brought many of the original IP products to market.

A one stop shop.

One problem that came up time and time again was the need to have a different supplier for fire prevention and another for security. We are able to offer a wide range of both fire and security systems – meaning one consultant, one quote and one installation for all your needs. In 2008, we took this idea even further with the formation of our sister company Chris Lewis Smart Home – so that customers could be provided with an even greater range of products – all under one roof.

2016 saw a new direction for the brand with the unification of Fire & Security and Smart Home – under the umbrella of the Chris Lewis Group, this further strengthened our presence as the largest independent local provider of its type.

customer serviceYou’re never left hanging.

We know that when customers call us they should be made to feel valued, and there is nothing more frustrating than calling a number and having to wait before you get to speak to real person. That is why at Chris Lewis we make sure that every call is answered first time – no queuing, no waiting – just a friendly voice ready and willing to help you with your needs.

Always innovating.

Part and parcel of delivering excellent customer service is the ability to provide the latest and best technology and practices. As earlier adopters of both new technology and customer service methods, we have invested to give our customers more. It has been pushing the boundaries that has given us the edge and made our business stand out.

This investment and innovation has led to us having twice won the title for best IT imitative at the Security Excellence awards, as well as Chris Lewis being listed as one of the top 50 Most Influential in Fire and Security 2015, by IFSEC Global.

Customer service training for all.

Chris Lewis Fire and Security has made customer care a priority for every employee.

We ensured every member of the team undertook customer care training. By involving all employees, we are able to deliver a strong and consistent message. The ethos of the company is based on the continuous help, support and personal development. Investment in people over the years has been a priority with apprentice training, management development courses and even degree support.

Core values

Dedication and integrity.

Our set of core values promote transparency and a better understanding of the organisation’s ethos – both internally and to our customers.

  • Customer first
  • Respect others
  • Achieve more together
  • Exceed customer expectations
  • Be accountable
  • Deliver exceptional results

But it isn’t just about providing our customers with the latest technology. Something that hasn’t, and won’t change, is our level of dedication, service and experience. At the core of our business is excellent customer service – the ability to listen, understand and deliver the latest products everything our clients expect, and more, is our highest priority. Chris Lewis is now not only a name, but also an instantly recognised industry brand synonymous with quality, technology and superior service and personnel.

In 25 years our passion hasn’t changed, we continue to strive to be the best and the most creative. We are always looking for new ways to improve and find better ways to serve our customers personally and using the latest technology.

Going on holiday? How to protect your property when you are away this summer

protect your home when you're on holiday

Relax this summer by guarding against theft and fire with these simple home security measures

Four out of five burglaries occur when a house is unoccupied; this makes a few weeks away for some summer sun the perfect opportunity for thieves.

The good news is that there are plenty of things you can do to ensure your home is secure whilst you’re away. Follow these simple tips to protecting your home and its contents, then relax in the knowledge that your belongings are safe and secure.

protect your home when you're on holiday

1.Test your alarm

If you don’t set it very regularly, do a test run a few weeks before you’re due to leave, to allow time for an engineer’s visit if there is a problem. The last thing you want is to discover your security or fire alarm isn’t working just before you head off to the airport. And don’t forget to switch it on before you leave!

2. Check all your window and door locks are working properly

Burglars are clever and quick to spot an opportunity – an open window or faulty side door; everything should be locked up tight. Again check the locks and window fixtures a few weeks before you go so that you have time to repair any problems. Consider installing security sensors. These can alert you to any doors, windows, barns or garages left open so you can secure your property with ease.

3. Maintenance

You don’t want to come back from holiday to find that your alarm was faulty and didn’t activate when an intruder entered the property, or even that it kept your neighbours awake all night. Check your maintenance schedule and if necessary book a maintenance visit before you go. Regular maintenance and system upgrading is the best way to protect your home.

4. Key holders

If your alarm does go off when you’re away, an alarm receiving centre will contact you or another key holder. If you have entrusted a friend or neighbour with this responsibility make sure they’ll be around and their details are up to date so that they can be contacted if your alarm is activated.

5. Tell-tale signs

Leaflets poking out of the letterbox, bins left in the street, parcels on the doorstep – they are all signals to opportunistic burglars that you are away. Cancel deliveries and ask a trusted neighbour to move your post out of sight or bring in your bins. If you are away for longer, you could consider the Royal Mail Keepsafe service – they’ll keep your mail for up to two months while you’re gone.

6.  Hold off on social media

Make sure that only people you know and trust are aware of your holiday plans. Announcing your holiday trips and posting snaps of you on the beach all over social media might seem like a great idea but that information could easily be shared with total strangers.

7. Move valuables

If you normally leave bicycles or power tools in your shed, consider putting them in the house while you are away, or buy a very sturdy lock. Don’t leave valuable items such as laptops or tablets on display and visible through downstairs windows. Move as much as you can into lockable cupboards, well away from view.

8. Fake it

Making your house look occupied is another good way to deter burglars. Buy a timer switch to turn lights on and off in the evenings, plug-in adapters can be used for table lamps and lighting adapters that fit between the light socket and the bulb for ceiling lights. You could also invite a neighbour to park on your drive while you are away as it will make it look like someone is home.

9. Spare keys

Burglars like to get into a property as quickly as possible – and the easiest way is with a key. If they suspect your property is unoccupied, they may look round for a spare key. If you have one hidden under a rock or flowerpot it would probably be a good idea to move it before you go away.

Chris Lewis Smart security app10. Get a smart alarm app

With a security system like the Chris Lewis Smart Home System you can control, view and receive notifications with an app for flexibility and convenience. This means that even if you’re on the beach you can keep an eye on your property. And if you get off the plane and remember you’ve forgotten to set your alarm – it only takes a quick tap on your app to resolve.
